World Higher Education Index publishes comparative tables for universities and taught postgraduate programmes in the United Kingdom. Our editorial position is simple: a ranking is only worth reading if the method behind it is published in full and applied identically to every entry.
No institution pays to appear in a table, to be assessed, or to change its position. Institutions are given the opportunity to correct factual errors in the descriptions attached to their entries, but never to review a score before publication.
One method, every table
The same six weighted indicators produce every ranking on this site. We do not reweight a table to make its ordering more intuitive.
Published in advance
Weightings are set and published before data collection closes, so no indicator can be tuned after the results are known.
Corrections in the open
Where a figure is shown to be wrong, the entry is amended and the change noted at the foot of the table rather than made silently.
